Dr. Bowen has been a hand and wrist surgeon at the South Health Campus (SHC) since 2012. In 2018 he received the distinguished service award for the SHC Department of Surgery.

He immigrated to Canada from Scotland on a Boeing 707 (the first jetliner made by Boeing Commercial Airlines). 

Education

Dr. Bowen obtained his undergraduate degree and medical training at the University of Edinburgh. He holds two fellowships: Microsurgery and Clinical Assistant in Plastic Surgery at the Microsurgery Research Unit (St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia) and Fellow in Hand Surgery (Vancouver, British Columbia).

research interests 

Dr. Bowen is the current Editor in Chief of Microsurgery. His research interests include microsurgical epiphyseal plate transplantation and blood supply to bone.

Currently, Dr. Bowen is involved as a co-investigator in the PARTE study at South Health Campus, a randomized comparison of partial wrist fusion with or without triquetral excision.
