Dr. Stephen FRENCH

Dr. French has worked as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at the South Health Campus (SHC) since 2013. Dr. French specializes in sports medicine and complex lower extremity reconstruction.

He contributes to medical education as the Education Lead for Sports Medicine at the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program (University of Calgary) and by supervising medical students and residents at SHC. In his other professional activities, he has consulted for many professional teams including the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Stampeders.

Education

Dr. French graduated from Dalhousie University (Halifax, Nova Scotia) before attending medical school at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. He went on to complete his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Toronto in 2004. 

 

He has two fellowships: Operative Sports Medicine (Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic, London ON, 2005) and Complex Lower Extremity Reconstruction (University of Toronto, 2007). He also completed his Diploma in Sports Medicine through the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (Ottawa, Ontario) in 2009. 

research interests 

In his research work, Dr. French has focused primarily on reconstruction in the athletic knee. He contributes to ongoing SCRUBS research by assisting with recruitment and follow-up for traumatic injury clinical trials.
